Long Island, 1933 business mainly consisted of farmers and fisherman. A young man of Norwegian decent saw a need for an Auto & Truck Brake Service center. That man, my grandfather George H. Lindveit, started such a business in a cow barn on Medford Ave in Patchogue. The business aptly named Suffolk County Brake Service, flourished through hard work and legendary service to the people of Long Island. In 1950, the old cow barn was too small for the newer larger trucks and trailers that carried potatoes, fish, ducks and oysters to NYC markets and so a new, larger facility was constructed down the street. With the new facility, George was better able to service all types of commercial and passenger vehicles.
In 1983, I Jeffrey Scannelli purchased the family business and continued with the same business philosophy. The parts and service business has changed a little since I first took over. The trucks and trailers once again got bigger, and that 1950 garage, built 55 years ago, was too small to continue business in a profitable manner. This year I made the difficult decision to move from the corner that my family had worked so hard at for the past 81 years, to a larger building and property 5 miles west on Lincoln Ave. in Bohemia. Leaving was not an easy decision, but the only thing to do, so that we can better service our many loyal customers. I know my grandfather would be proud that we outgrew the old facility that he worked so hard to build, and that the business is still in our family after all this time.
Our new 35,000 sq. ft. facility sits on 5 acres and is a big difference from that small, old cow barn on Medford Ave. We will, however always maintain the same hard working and honest way of doing business that my grandfather taught me over the years. Please stop by and say hello at: 862 Lincoln Ave., Bohemia 11716. We are one block north of Sunrise Hwy. At the same time, I would like to thank our many loyal friends and customers for all their support, and hope to better serve you all in the future.
